Keeping Delaware Safe
The fastest way to improve the quality-of-life in Delaware and attract new employers to our state is to improve public safety in Delaware. To ensure that happens, Charlie Copeland will follow a smart approach that puts as much emphasis on preventing crime as it does on punishing criminals.
Preventing crime can best be accomplished by making sure all Delawareans have the opportunity to become independent, productive members of society. To make this happen, Charlie will push to improve our public education system, provide the job training and re-training mentioned in his economic policy platform, and work to reduce the illegal drug problem facing so many of our communities today.
Charlie will also work to change the societal re-entry system currently followed by our corrections system to lower the recidivism rate in Delaware. If the state improves the process of getting individuals from our corrections system to the workforce, the crime rate will decrease, the massive costs to taxpayers of supporting our corrections system will decrease, and the state’s economy will benefit.
Of course, there will always be individuals in our society who are unwilling or unable to follow our laws. For these people, punishment must be strong and unbending – to ensure that these criminals cannot continue to threaten the safety of Delaware residents.
