Open Space and the Environment
Charlie Copeland understands that the growth and development we are seeing across Delaware has an impact on our environment…an impact that must be addressed if we are to protect our environmental resources and natural heritage for generations to come.
Charlie also understands that our environmental resources are connected to each other and to our quality-of-life as a whole. He knows that preserving farmland helps ensure cleaner drinking water; that improving the quality of our air also improves the health of our residents; that encouraging environmentally-friendly industry also encourages economic growth.
As Lt. Governor, Charlie will push for a balanced approach to the issue of growth that protects an individual’s property rights while maintaining a strong environment.
To protect open space, he supports a statewide, Transfer Development Rights (TDR) program, believes our state and local communities need to put more resources into securing development rights to prevent development, and will provide greater incentives to landowners who voluntarily keep land undeveloped.
To protect our air and water quality, Charlie will push for laws with real teeth when it comes to corporate pollution – forcing polluters to clean-up their messes and helping prevent future messes from occurring through the use of clean technologies, stricter safety guidelines and more.
